Restaurants: running the floor and the kitchen together
Tables, modifiers, kitchen display screens and how an order gets from the customer to the pass.
1 min read
MerxumOS runs the front of house and the kitchen as one system, so the floor knows what is ready without walking in to ask.
Taking the order
- Open the table. Tables show their state at a glance — free, seated, ordered, bill requested.
- Add items. Modifiers cover the real requests: extra shito, no pepper, well done, a different side, each with its own effect on the price.
- Send the order. It appears on the kitchen display immediately.
- The kitchen marks items as they are cooked, and the floor sees it on their screen.
- Print or send the bill, split it if the table is splitting, and take payment.
Note — Only items that need cooking are sent to the kitchen screen. Drinks and packaged items stay off it, so the kitchen is not reading past things it has nothing to do with.
Walk-ins and bookings
Reservations hold bookings against a time and a table, and a waitlist handles walk-ins when you are full. A queue display board can show customers who is next, which takes the pressure off the host.
Tip — Delivery and online ordering use the same menu and the same stock. If you would rather not run your own riders, orders can be pushed to Yango instead.
