Who can see what: roles, branches and permissions

How access is decided, and how to give people what their job needs without opening everything.

    1 min read

Access in MerxumOS is decided by two things together: the role a person has, and the branches they work at.

    Roles

A role decides which screens a person can open — cashier, dispenser, stylist, kitchen staff, warehouse, branch manager, accountant, owner and more, depending on your trade. Permissions can be tuned per role, and larger plans can create their own roles.

    Branch scope

The same role sees different figures depending on where they work. A branch manager sees their own branch rather than the whole business, which matters when you would rather one manager did not see another's numbers. An owner sees everything.

    Brands

Where an account runs several brands, staff belong to the brand they work for. Figures never cross between brands, and switching brands is deliberate rather than accidental.

Tip — Give each person the lowest role that lets them do their job. Promoting somebody later takes ten seconds; explaining why a cashier could see payroll takes considerably longer.
