Delivery Without the Drama: Assigning Riders, Tracking Orders, and Getting Paid on COD
Delivery turns one sale into three problems: who delivers, where the order is, and whether the cash comes back. Here's how to run delivery without the drama.

Delivery sounds simple: customer orders, rider takes it, customer pays. In practice, every delivery splits into three questions that can each go wrong — who's taking it, where is it right now, and did the money actually come back? Cash on delivery makes the last one sharp, because the cash leaves your hands the moment the order does.
Assigning riders without the guesswork
Hand orders to riders by shouting across the shop and you'll lose track fast. Two riders take the same order, or none do, and a customer waits. Assignment should be deliberate and recorded, not a scramble.
- Every order is assigned to a specific rider — no ambiguity.
- The rider knows the address, the items and the amount to collect.
- You can see at a glance who is carrying what.
- Nothing leaves the shop unassigned.
Tracking orders so customers stop calling
Half the drama of delivery is the 'where is my order?' calls. When every order has a clear status — preparing, out for delivery, delivered — you and your customer both know where things stand without a phone call, and a stuck order is obvious before it becomes a complaint.
- Move each order through clear stages from order to delivered.
- Let the customer get an update when the order is on the way.
- Flag orders that have sat too long at any stage.
- Confirm delivery so 'delivered' actually means delivered.
Getting paid on COD
Cash on delivery is where money goes missing. The rider collects, and somewhere between the doorstep and your drawer, the amount can blur. The fix is to tie the cash to the order: each rider is accountable for the exact amount their delivered orders should have collected.
When assignment, tracking and cash all sit on the order itself, delivery stops being a daily scramble. You know who has what, where it is, and that the cash for every delivered order is accounted for before the rider clocks off.
Delivery isn't done when the order arrives. It's done when the cash is back and reconciled.
MerxumOS ties delivery to the order end to end — assign riders, track status, notify customers and reconcile cash on delivery per rider — so growing your delivery never means growing the chaos.
